March 2007 Headwaters Trail (Geauga County)

The Ohio Handcycle Network enjoyed a beautiful day on March 24th as we tested the new Headwaters Trail.  This is a new path in Geauga county that just opened in November 2006.  The complete round trip was 18 miles.  Sites included covered bridges, frog and turtle ponds, and many creaks flowing near.

Parking was found at the Headwaters State Park on Rt 168 (just south of Rt 322).  It was not very friendly access to the trail, for a dirt (muddy) road was traveled for about a half of a mile.  This was the only area where parking was found for this trail.  Several other locations were researched where the trail crossed roads, but no other legal and accessible parking was created - not even on the other end of the trail in Chardon.  So if you wish to take a trip to this trail, make sure its on a dry day or else expect mud.

The trail was a very easy low impact grade rarely surpassing 5 degrees incline.  A great beginner ride for those learning Handcycling for the rookies and season warm-up stretching.

Keep checking our schedule as we add more rides throughout 2007!
