In 1992 the Cleveland Wheelchair Cavaliers, a non-profit organization, became the first wheelchair team in Cleveland providing an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to lead a more active lifestyle through sport. The team is comprised of individuals with physical disabilities who live in Northeast Ohio. Two of its current members are veterans of the US Military. The team competes across the country and has finished among the top teams both regionally and nationally. Several of its members have been sent to play in the NBA’s All-Star Wheelchair Game. In addition to traveling to tournaments the team also visits hospitals, camps, schools and youth centers. The team is proud to announce that it will send its first ever junior division team (ages 13-21) to compete in regional and national games this year.
Individuals, business, community and civic leaders from Northeast Ohio attended this first annual event.
